In 1921 Maurice Lownds Pateman started his business as a photographic developing and printing service in Babbacombe. Maurices fathers name was Alfred E Pateman and his mothers name Ann E Lownds – hence Lownds Pateman.
Babbacombe Pottery was founded in 1952 and was sold to Toni Raymond Pottery in 1967. In 1987 it was taken over by Philip Laureston Designs. In April 1998 the business and site of Babbacombe Pottery was acquired by Lownds Pateman Ltd.
The third generation Brian Lownds-Pateman started working for the company in 1970 and is now the Managing Director. On the 28th February 2000 Lownds Pateman Ltd went into administration.
In 2001 Brian Lownds Pateman started as Sole Proprietor and is still producing these lovely Babbacombe Pottery cats etc.
